SDCAA Fall Meeting

The Fall meeting of the SDCAA was called to order by President Lanette Butler. Sergeant of Arms Maurice Lemke reported 49 members and 1 guest in attendance.
Guest Director Warmann spoke to the group about the new districts that have been proposed. FEU’s are to be decided within those districts by January 1st.
The secretary’s report was handed out and reviewed. Bill Keck moved to accept the report as written. Steve Sutera 2nd. Motion Passed (attachment A)
The Treasurer’s report was reviewed and handed out. Stacy Hadrick moved to accept the report as written. Mark Major 2nd. Motion passed. (attachment B)
OLD BUSINESS:
2006 NACAA AM/PIC:
There were 3 in attendance at the National meeting this year; Steve Munk, Clint Clark, and Bob Fanning. Director Warmann also attended. Steve reported that the Futuring Committee submitted 66 recommendations to the delegates. At this time only one has been implemented. The one recommendation that was voted on and implemented was that now 1st time members attending the conference their registration will be waived, even if they have been in extension for over 5 years. They are no longer limited to receiving a waived registration fee only within the first 5 years of their career.
They are talking about submitting the communications awards electronically from now on. More will be coming out on this matter.
Clint Clark presented Lanette with her Achievement Award.

Dues for 2007:
Don moved that everyone that is a member of SDCAA pay $90 dues with $5.00 going to pay their SDCEA dues, unless they were a member of another association where they paid their SDCEA dues in that membership. Jerry Mills 2nd. After much discussion Don rescinded the motion on the floor. Chuck moved that all members of SDCAA must be members of SDCEA. Jerry Mills 2nd. Motion passed.
Election of Officers:
Vice President: Nominations were Heather Gessner and John Keimig
Sec/Treas: Nominations were Connie Strunk and Adele Gelvin
Sergeant of Arms: Paul Johnson.
Mel Kloster moved that nominations ease. Mike Huber 2nd. Motion passed.
Ballots were handed out and members voted on Vice President and Sec/ Treas.
Ballots were counted.
Officers for 2007 are as follows:
Vice President - Heather Gessner – McCook County
Sec/ Treas. – Connie Strunk – Turner County
Sergeant of Arms – Paul Johnson – Moody County
Committee Reports:
NACAA Committees: (only committees reported are recorded)
Natural Resources: Bill Keck – reported that there were no applicants for awards; keep in mind that waste management and water quality now counts for awards.
Horticulture and Turf: Jerry Mills is going to contact the Hort. Educators and encourage them to apply for the awards
Teaching & Educational Technologies (Communications): Bob Fanning – Handed out awards (attachment c)
4-H & Youth: Maurice Lemke – would like to see Rod Geppert or Steve Munk on the board who has direct contact with 4-H and State Fair.
Scholarship: Chuck Langner- has worked and for right now everything for the SD members should be correct and ok.
SDCAA Committees:
4-H Rodeo: Mike Huber – State meetings are coming up Oct. 28th in Pierre.
Congressional Liaison: Paul Johnson – if you have issues please let him know.
Legislative: Jerry Mills – reminder that community leaders meetings are coming up
State Fair Committee: Rod Geppert – thanks for all your help! Looking at a meat goat show at the State Fair.
Women in Ag: Robin Salverson – 2006 WIA was held in Spearfish Sept 29th & 30th.
SDCAA Commodity Associations;
Master Lamb Producers: Rod Geppert – remember to submit names from your county
SD Pork Producers Council: Steve Sutera – don’t forget about the scholarships
SD Crop Improvement Association: Mark Rosenberg – State meeting is at Ag Horizon’s Conference December 5 & 6
SD Stock growers Association: Maurice Lemke – COOL, National ID, and Prairie Dogs all issues.
SD Association of County Commissioners: Maurice Lemke – working w/ Commissioners and communication is important.
SD Cattleman’s Association: Jim Krantz – the state convention is Nov 29 – 30 in Pierre.
SD NO- Till Association: Roger Barrick- they are offering scholarships to attend the State meeting
Weed & Pest: Gary Erickson – District meetings are coming up, the state meeting is in Chamberlain in Feb.
Other Business:
Lanette reminded the members that if they ordered the MN prints to stop up and pick them up after the meeting.
Bill Keck reminded everyone about the Black Hills Stock Show scholarships.
Steve Munk stressed to the new members that if they have questions about the association, to ask questions, find out what the association can do for you.
Lanette handed over the gavel to Clint.
Seeing no further business, President Clint Clark adjourned the meeting.
