SDCAA Fall Meeting

Brookings County Extension Complex

 

            The fall meeting of the SDCAA was called to order with President Don Guthmiller presiding.  Sergeant of Arms Maurice Lemke reported 44 members in attendance. 

            The minutes of the spring meeting were pasted out for members to read.

 

            The first item of business discussed was the recent elimination of the Ag and Natural Resources program leader position.  Members voiced their concern on the issue dealing with the elimination of this position.  Many questions relating to who’s going to handle certain matters were raised.  A recess was called while Director Jerry Warmann addressed the group regarding the matter of the elimination of the program leader. 

 

            The meeting was called back to order by the President Don Guthmiller. 

 

Old Business:

 

National Meeting:

            Don reported that the national directors are looking at setting up a futureing committee and that emails will be coming out regarding the 3 issues they will be looking at addresses. 

 

            New members were reminded that the registration fee is waived if you attend your first National Meeting within the first 5 years of your Extension career. 

 

            The National website is in the works to be upgraded and the proceedings from the National meeting are on the website as is much more information for members.

           

Dialogue with the Director:

            The dialogue with the director is still set for Thursday morning of Annual Conference.  This is taking the place of the communications that we use to have with the director where only a few from each association met with the director. 

 

SDCEA By-law Change:

            The proposed by-law change will be voted upon at the SDCEA meeting on Thursday. 

 

Hosting Break at Michigan:

            Lanette said she would continue to work with the president of the North Dakota Agents Association to see about hosting a break when Michigan had the National Meeting.

 

 

 

 

Induction:

            The following new members were inducted into the SDCAA:

Adele Gelvin

Irene Graves

 

Proposed Budget:

            Treasurer Kim McGraw explained the proposed budget for 2006.  Not many changes have been made for 2006.  We need to look at purchasing additional prints for the Retiring Ag Educators.  John Keimig moved to accept the proposed budget.  Bart Krautschun 2nd, motion passed.

 

Dues:

            Dues for 2006 will stay the same, $90.00 to belong to SDCEA and SDCAA.  $85.00 for SDCAA only.  There were no changes to the dues at the national meeting.  Kim will have the forms for the dues out to the members by November 1st

 

Election of Officers:

            President – Elect:  Robin Salverson nominated Clint Clark as president elect.  Kevin Vaith moved nominations ease and a unanimous ballet by cased John Keimig 2nd.  Motion passed. 

 

            Sergeant of Arms:  Mark Rosenberg nominated Maurice Lemke.  John Keimig moved nominations ease and a unanimous ballet by cased.  Justin Keyser 2nd motion passed.

 

Directors were elected by districts:

NC director is Terry Hall

SE director is Zach Rada

 

Committee Reports:

 

            Professional Excellence:

                        Craig Rosenberg announced that there were 14 entries in the Ag communications awards program this year.  He recognized Ray Gosmire, Lanette Butler, and Heather Gessner as award recipients.  The sponsors for the awards are Tri-State Neighbor and SD Newspaper Association.

 

            Retirement/ Insurance:

                        Bill Keck reminded everyone that they need to be paying attention to the BOP website. 

 

            4-H Rodeo:

                        Mike Huber told members that the finals and the lay board meeting for the 4-H rodeos will be October 29th.

 

            Directors Advisory Committee:

                        Don Guthmiller said that the SDCEA has at this point taken over and do the directors dialog.

 

 

 

 

            Women in AG:

                        Robin Salverson reported that they had a good response in Watertown and the conference next year will be in Spearfish with an invitation to ND, WY, and NE. 

 

            SD Pork Producers:

                        Steve Sutera reminded members that the scholarships are available those interested need to go to the website to get the form.

 

            Life Committee:

                        Steve Sutera reported that Bob Edwards and Bob Sampson had passed away this year.  Loren Tilberg will be receiving his framed picture at the banquet. 

 

Bill keck invited everyone to Youth Day at the Black Hills Stock Show and reminded members that they are giving scholarships away.  

 

Seeing no further business, meeting was adjourned.
