Fall Meeting

Fireside Restaurant at Brookings, SD

The meeting was called to order at 7:25 p.m. (CT) by President Bob Fanning.

Sergeant of Arms, Maurice Lemke, reported 42 staff present, as well as 5 guests (three district supervisors to hand out 'Years of Service" recognition, Fred Cholick - Dean of Ag & Bio, and Larry Tidemann - Director of Extension) present at various times throughout the meeting.

Minutes from the 2002 Spring SDCAA Meeting were available for members to read (attachment

A). One item of correction was brought to the attention of the Secretary... Craig Anthony was one of the members who planned to attend the 2002 NACAA AMPIC, not Craig Rosenberg.

Treasurer's report was available for members to read (attachment B).

Old Business:

Don Guthmiller and Bob Fanning reported on the 2002 NACAA AMPIC in Savannah, GA.

Mike Huber, SDCAA Vice President, shared information about hosting a morning break with North Dakota at the 2003 NACAA Convention in Green Bay, WI. The hotel will allow us to bring in items for the break, so the membership was asked to round up Dakota-made food products (donated, etc.) to give out. The Wisconsin membership will have beverages available for us to purchase at a reasonable cost, so we do not need to haul those items in. Wisconsin expects about 800 people at the break at a cost of about $1,000 (about $500 for N.D and $500 for S.D.). Justin Keyser made a motion that SDCAA co-host, with N.D., the Monday afternoon break on July 14th, at the 2003 NACAA AMPIC @ Green Bay, WI. Ray Gosmire seconded the motion. MOTION PASSED.

New Business:

It was suggested, that since we want to have as many members attend the National Convention as possible, in support of Steve Munk as NACAA President, we should increase SDCAA's monetary support that is set in place for attending members. Chuck Langner made a motion that $2000, with a maximum of $250 per member, be made available for reimbursement of expenses for members attending the 2003 NACAA AMPIC. (Support would again return to $1000, with a maximum of $250 per member, after the 2003 Conference.) Justin Keyser seconded the motion. MOTION PASSED. About 15 members indicated that they were planning to attend the 2003 Convention in Green Bay, WI.

Steve Munk updated the membership on current NACAA issues, the upcoming 2003 Convention, and his duties as President at the 2003 Convention. Steve also invited members to attend a Regional Meeting in Kansas City, Missouri on February 2-4, 2003 and a Leadership Meeting in Washington, DC on May 4-7, 2003. Because Steve will be incurring some costs to fulfill his duties as NACAA President at the Convention, the membership discussed helping him out with some financial support. Don Guthmiller made a motion that SDCAA give Steve Munk, NACAA President, $500 to help offset the cost of officer gifts and the spouse's tea that he and his wife will be responsible for at the 2003 NACAA AMPIC. Heather Gessner seconded the motion. MOTION PASSED.

The possible need to limit the amount that SDCAA would contribute to host the Monday afternoon break at the 2003 Convention was brought up. Bill Keck made a motion that there be a $500 limit on SDCAA's contribution to co-hosting the Monday afternoon break at the 2003 NACAA AMPIC. Motion died for lack of a second.

Three new SDCAA members (April Borders, Kristi Effling, and Chad LeBrun) were introduced to the membership and welcomed into the organization.

The membership was reminded that we are looking for sponsorships for both our Spring and Fall SDCAA meeting.
